About the Counsellor

Many people seek counselling with me for my ability to speak English combined with my life experiences in different countries. I was born and raised in Japan. I have also lived, studied and worked in U.S. and Europe for the total of more than 12 years. I stay in Japan a couple of times a year, where I offer sessions and workshops in psychology. Experiencing different cultures must have been an important part of my life path, since I have been given many opportunities throughout my life to travel and diaglogue with people in many places in Japan as well as across the globe.

Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by cross-cultural issues. What do I experience internally and externally when encountering a different culture? What unique characteristics each culture has, including Japan? How does one's native language and land influence his/her psyche? What can we do to facilitate understanding between people coming from different backgrounds?  These are the things that I have given a lot of thoughts to over the years. My training in Process-oriented psychology also includes facilitation work for diversity issues.

I believe that we all share universal issues and common grounds as human beings. At the same time, many people I have had the priviledge of working with have commented that my direct experiences and knowledge in different cultures had been the essential factors when choosing me as their therapist, and that they feel understood by me. I would be very honoured and happy if my experiences can be an addition to my services for many people living in multi-cultural situations.
